How to pitch yourself in 2 minutes or less—and nail your dream job

www.fastcompany.com: A professional narrative captures your career story at its most concise and memorable level. Ideally, that’s about two minutes in conversation, and less than 200 words when written. It’s a power-packed paragraph that when done right, clearly differentiates you in the job market, identifies your target role and keeps you top of mind.

As this article mentions, there are many components of someone’s experience or career that can be extremely beneficial but cannot be expressed without in depth self-reflection. I can personally relate to many ideas mentioned in this article as myself, like others, am made up of strengths, weaknesses, and experiences, however, when strengths come naturally, it is easy to just remember the weaknesses. Although not as formal as applying to be the vice president of a company as described in the article, I associate many concepts in this article with the college application and audition process. For example, this idea of “professional narrative versus personal brand” applies extremely well to the college process. Now, what sets someone apart in a college audition might seem minuscule to what sets professionals in their field apart, but the same process applies. The most challenging task mentioned in this article is “enlisting outside help to assess your strengths objectively”. The article explains the benefits of doing this task, but I think the hardest part is preparing for feedback in such a vulnerable setting and finding someone whose feedback you trust.
