On the Arts: The year that roared for Hollywood and Broadway

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: It’s good to be the king of the world, and right now, the crown sits atop the Disney empire.

Sorry, James Cameron, but neither “Titanic” nor “Avatar” can claim to have conquered both stage and screen in a single bound.

News that 2015 was a record-breaking box office year for Broadway and Hollywood has everything to do with Disney. The theatrical arm of the Mouse House has a lock on Broadway mega success with “The Lion King” and “Aladdin.” And “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which has overtaken “Avatar” as the box office champ of North America, is the first of the franchise’s films under the Disney umbrella since the company acquired Lucasfilm in 2012.
