'X-Files' premiere UFO crash
Business Insider: "The X-Files" creator Chris Carter wanted the show's revival to be more than just your standard return. He wanted it to be bigger and more contemporary than it had been. The series accomplished that right off the bat in the premiere episode by creating its largest prop ever. But that wasn't even the most expensive episode of the new season.

I love to see that people are still using the old school methods for special effects props. It definitely has to be in your budget but it makes your TV show or movie that much better. The new Star Wars movie is a good example of this because of the effects that are displayed in the film. Producers realize that it is a little bit more money but the audience will be more apt to be impressed if they know the effect was really happening. Some film producers think they can get away with computer-generated effects, but the audience knows when it is on a green scene. I have personally never seen this particular series but it appears that this prop is pretty important to the over all show, making it worth to invest the time and money into the scene. What I find even more interesting is how they don’t expect to see a return on the prop, but they hope that over time this investment will add a positive outlook on the series down the road.
