Imagineering is such a vital part of the Disney corporation legacy and a testament to how Walt Disney's vision lives on today. Not only do Imagineers do amazing things for the corporation itself; they also represent how creativity and intelligence go hand in hand, inspiring young minds and careers nationwide. The title of Imagineer is unique in that it brings a gravitas and respect to the work of a career which is made in the adult pursuit of keeping childhood dreams alive, something quite often looked down upon by people who possess the intelligence which it takes to be an Imagineer. This is, I think, exactly what Walt Disney would have wanted, and the very reason that we need places like Disneyland. This is a career which pays regular salary to the little kid inside every grownup, a commitment which helps to foster the sense of wonder in every devoted Disney lover. Mr. Weis is just one of many amazing people who have devoted their lives to keeping others young, who believe as many as six impossible things before breakfast. Bravo, Imagineers.
It sounds like Walt Disney Imagineering is going to be in good hands for the next few years at least. Bob Weis has an impressive track record and I am really excited to see what he can do as the creative and administrative head of the preeminent themed entertainment organization. Who knows what we might see coming out of Disney in the near future but I have no doubt that whatever it is it will be high quality and a sight to behold. The scale of WDI is actually quite impressive when you consider how much interactivity there seems to be among senior executives across oceans. It is my hope and belief that Disney will continue their commitment to excellence everywhere in the world. We will soon find out if WDI is going to be radically changing directions with their new head but wherever they go I trust it will be truly awesome.
Imagineering has become an industry in itself with a life force of its own. Most of the time, people don’t know what imagineers do, the work that they put into projects or what types of skills are involved in what they do. What they see are the results. Weis seems to have an impressive resume both with and outside of Disney. As impressive as it is, I’d like to know what kind of background he has. I’m sure some Googling would reveal this, but I think the article seems incomplete without mentioning what (if any) schools he went to. Disney has an impressive body of work behind it. One of the things I admire about Disney is that it is constantly challenging the normal to think outside of the box. Their success rate is impressive, but Disney doesn’t seem like the company to let their failures get out. They combine technology, entertainment, art, and creativity. Who knows, maybe I’d like to work for them some day.
