TribLIVE.com: During rehearsals for Mary Rawson's solo performance in Quantum Theatre's “Ciara,” the running joke was that she was wondering when the other actors would show up.
This is pretty cool! I didn’t realize how much of a constant connection Carnegie Mellon had with Quantum Theatre. I do remember seeing The Winter’s Tale there and it was definitely unlike anything I had ever seen. Admittedly I hadn’t seen an Opera before that, but I also hadn’t seen Media carry a show in the way that it did here, or lighting in such a small, non theatrical space. I’ve also never seen a show with only one actor in it, but I can easily imagine how much more design comes into play in that type of production. Because of those reasons I think it’s great that this article takes the time to discuss the technical aspects of the show. Shows like this really bring design to the forefront of every audience member’s mind, because it must now tell so much of the story. So I think after seeing this shows audience members will leave with a greater appreciation for design.
