Actress: 'It's a dream' to be touring with 'Cabaret'

TribLIVE.com: The national tour of “Cabaret,” which arrives at the Benedum Center on Feb. 2, is led by a young woman who knows the musical intimately. After all, she watched it for a year on Broadway — from the stage.

Andrea Goss will play the fishnet-and-bowler hat wearing chanteuse Sally Bowles after being a member of the ensemble and an understudy for Sally. She patiently backed up Michelle Williams, Emma Stone and Sienna Miller.

Before I begin, let me state the this if my favorite article I have ever head on the blog. Even though it is extremely straightforward and simple, it talked about so many of the things I am so passionate about and what I want to do with my future. Music festivals are such a special thing and I think that the final paragraph in this article summarizes it for a lot of music fans, including myself. However, as someone who is extremely interested in the career of managing and producing a new music festival, it makes me concerned. I don’t necessarily think that it is a bad thing that these corporate companies are taking over festivals. After all, many of these festivals would not be able to happen without the funds and support of those companies. And these corporate-owned festivals, although not independent, do often produce quality programing and have up and coming artists on their line-up. On the other side of things, having to answer to these companies can restrict the creative ideas that lie at the heart of many of these festivals.

Festivals, including musical festivals, are such a special thing. They can be religious for some people and an escape from reality for others. So many of the people I’ve talked to, say that their weekend at Gov Ball or Bonnaroo was the best weekend of their life. That obviously means that something special is happening at these festivals and is something that I so want to be a part of. To make the memory of a lifetime for someone with music that I love is something that I would do anything to be a part of.

This is a tour I have been waiting for since last year. I really hope I have time to go see it. Cabaret is a great show that is really fun to watch (for most of it). I have always said the only time I will act again is to play the emcee in Cabaret so I am kind of hoping that they show up, and I just happen to be right there when the actual emcee gets sick and they need me to go on. Is it likely? No, but it just might happen. Reading this article inspired me to do some more research on the tour and it looks exactly like the Broadway show which I have mixed feelings on. On one hand, of course the tour is the same as Broadway, that is kind of the point. But on the other hand that show was the way it was and was so special because of the actors, mainly Alan Cummings. The pictures show the touring emcee in the same positions that Cummings coined which I think might be pushing it too far.

I'm so thrilled that Cabaret is touring, and I'm even happier that it's stopping in Pittsburgh. I had been meaning to look up the touring cast for a while, but this article helped save me the trouble. That being said, I am absolutely over the moon that Andrea Goss is the full time Sally. I saw the most recent revival on Broadway multiple times, and one of those times, I was lucky enough to see Goss in the lead role. She was, for lack of a better word, a dream. Every action, every change in tone, every facial expression spoke volumes in her performance. I am very picky about Sallys, as Cabaret is my favorite show, and Goss was one the best I've ever seen. I am so glad that she is getting the recognition she deserves in this full time role. It makes me even happier to know that she is thrilled and excited about this role as well.
