www.ny1.com: In the hit Broadway musical "Aladdin," the Genie grants three wishes, but a lot happens behind the scenes before genie's magic can hit the stage. The show’s producer, Disney Theatricals, looks to Hudson Scenic Studio to make its wishes come true.
"Well most things in show business," said Co-founder and Chairman of Hudson Scenic Studio. "Particularly Broadway shows, they're all dreams, and bringing it to reality is a great great challenge and really fulfilling."
That's what happens here at Hudson Scenic in Yonkers, New York.

This article makes the scene shop seem like such a glamorous place. We all hear a lot about Hudson Scenic as one of the best shops in the county, if not the world. In the video, I think what I was most surprised by what the amount of people working at the same time.
From what it looked like, they were putting up the Noises Off scenery, while simultaneously working on Alladin for the West End production, and I'm sure a few other projects that weren't being filmed. Its incredible to think that some of the larger shows on Broadway and in the world are built simultaneously, next to each other in the same shop.
Some of my questions about the shows mentioned in the article/video were in regards to the mechanics.
After our lecture today in PTM in regards to production positions, I want to know who is responsible for the mechanics behind all of the machinery that Hudson builds? It looks like a large scene shop, with a considerably large staff. I am interested to know how Hudson receives the bids for many shows, how do they offer up such an incomparable package?
When I came to CMU I thought that although I didn’t know what I wanted to do in the design side of theater, I at least knew I was a designer, with my fine arts portfolio and my acting background. But as we head into the second semester I have to admit I am seriously leaning towards wanting to become a technical director. Although it’s not something I would have ever guessed I would enjoy, I’ve really loved the tiny tastes of their world I’ve gotten through stagecraft, working in the shop on crew, and our PTM classes. Also, I find that the challenges that places like Hudson Scenic face are, to me, some of the most exciting and interesting in our business. I have to admit I’ve kind of fallen in love with this notion of being the person who gets to figure out how to bring these “dreams” to concrete reality. In a sense, the people who work in these shops get to build worlds. I really liked getting this small glimpse into the world of one of the most famous shops in the country, and I would love to get to visit or even work with these people some day.
I really have no clue what I want to do after school but one idea I keep coming back to is Hudson Scenic. I have looked there for summer jobs and can imagine working there out of college. What is most exciting to me is the scale and quantity of what goes on in the shop and the offices. I think it would be really cool to do commercial work where you may be working on a couple shows or projects at one time and each one is more innovative than the next. Watching the video got me really excited about working on really big projects with huge budgets. I also love that the head of the company was on the shop floor. I don’t know if that is where he spends most of his time, but the shear fact that his interview tool place there says a lot about the company and the way it is run and managed. I really hope to work there one day.
