Stage Technologies Makes King Kong Jump
Stage Directions: An 800-pound gorilla may sleep wherever he wants—but when dealing with the 12 tons of steel, motors, winches and cable systems that make King Kong move, Stage Technologies had to make sure the automation system did whatever they wanted it to. Stage Technologies supplied the automation system for the new King Kong musical that recently debuted in Australia, and much like the great ape, it was a behemoth of a system. In addition to supplying lines to control the large puppet Stage Technologies also used their Sculptor toolkit software to pre-viz the beast’s movement, programmed it into their Acrobat control system, overlaid a joystick control so puppeteers could enhance movement in real time, and worked with manual puppeteers on the stage.
