A haunted house where you can fight back? It's Universal Studios Japan's 'Biohazard - The Real'

www.themeparkinsider.com: Doors slam. Girls shriek. Something not too far away unleashes a guttural roar. The sounds are familiar to anyone who's waited to enter a haunted house attraction. The difference this time is that you have a gun in hand, and are ready to defend yourself from any attacking creatures. A haunted house in which you get to fight back is the basic concept behind Biohazard — The Real, the new walkthrough attraction at Universal Studios Japan.

This is such a cool interactive business idea! I think it's ingenious to allow your audience to fight with actors and really get involved in a haunted house. I think the biggest problem is liability though, what happens if someone gets hurt because of an actor or audience member? They'll have to work hard and be careful not to have that happen!

This is my life dream come true. Ive always prepared for the zombie apocalypse so this is amazing. Only Japan would have it. But I'm a little confused on what happens if you don't shoot. If you stood there and didn't pick up your gun what would they do?

This is such an awesome idea! Interactive theatre is always fun and exciting and with so many people now playing video games that resemble this exhibit it is sure to draw a large crowd. The only concern that I have is that it is perpetuating gun problems in the world and encouraging people to carry guns and be violent with them. I still think it can be an enjoyable experience but we just have to be careful that gun violence is not encouraged by the game.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of haunted houses. The inability to hit something that jumps out at me is both frustrating and stressful. But the idea of an interactive haunted house, while I would never go in it, is really exciting to me. After all, what's more scary than fighting for your life. In a normal haunted house, the audience knows roughly what to expect: stuff jumps out. But in this attraction, the stuff jumping out chases you around and you have to fight it off. The danger feels much more real, so the thrill is increased.
