PuppetVision Blog: Awareness and outrage over the Government of Israel’s decision last week to close the Palestinian National Theatre in East Jerusalem and ban a peaceful International Puppet Festival aimed at Palestinian children and their families has been growing all week. That’s largely thanks to the efforts of Israeli puppeteers Ariel Doron and Yousef Sweid. Personally I feel that this is clearly a violating of rights in some sort. Theater is meant to be celebrated in all shapes and forms, and the Israelis have no right to prohibit the show form going on. Even though the two countries have not yet been able to coincide peacefully an effort at such relations must be made at some point and little actions such as this banning with do anything but help their relations.
