Gaze Inside the Enormous Space Toolbox that Lives on the ISS

gizmodo.com: You never want to be stranded without your tools, especially if you are in the middle of nowhere. And what's middle-of-nowhere-er than the vacuum of space?

Oh my, that is about very technicians dream right here. The massive size of the toolbox is amazing, and I wish I owned one like that. Realistically though, out in the middle of space you cannot afford to leave a tool behind, so you may as well go over prepared to prevent any awkward situations of leaving a tool at home. Also, being only a few of the tools that the ISS contained, makes me wonder how many and what tools are included in that massive collection, and how long it takes one to acquire a toolkit the size of that one.

When I saw the photos, my first thought was "there's another thing we can steal from the "real world.'" That tool box is a technician's dream. Although it was not created for the theatre, it functions well inside of it. The box contains space for a little of everything, which is perfect for a load in. A technician never wants to be stranded in the middle of a build without their tools. The box makes it easier to be prepared for any type of situation, because often, anything that can go wrong will go wrong. I'd be interested to see the expected weight and durability of the tool box, because storage is not the only nor most important concern.

Oooh. Can we have one? Honestly, there are few things better for maintenance than a well designed toolbox. With the snug foam, the tools won't fly out (which is something you have to worry about when in SPACE). It's also interesting to see that most of those tools aren't high-tech or space-age. The ISS uses pliers, just like a high school stage crew might. It does, however, raise the question: How does one swing a hammer in zero-G?
