Broadway Bares 23 Raises a Record $1.4 Million for BC/EFA
Stage Directions: Broadway Bares 23 raised a record-high of $1,430,241 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The annual burlesque show was titled “United Strips of America” this year, and featured 13 bawdy acts satirizing life across the States in two sold-out shows in front of more than 6,000 people Sunday, June 23. M•A•C makeup was a sponsor of the show and in addition to sending 70 volunteers to help with makeup for the event, senior makeup artist Fatima Thomas presented BC/EFA with a check for $250,000 on behalf of Nancy Mahon, M•A•C senior vice president and executive director of the M•A•C AIDS Fund. A short video (slightly NSFW) of the highlights of the show after the jump!

I think that it is amazing that something like this has been running for 23 years. It is so great that these professionals are able to have fun and entertain an audience while still being aware that they are raising record breaking amounts of money each year for an incredible cause. BC/EFA is an amazing organization and they run some of the most creative fundraisers I've ever heard of. Yes this one could be called too racy or provokative, but for some reason I can't think of any real oppositions to this night. It allows the actors to have a ton of fun (as well as the audience), raises a ton of money each year and raises awareness for BC/EFA. I am so awed by what they have been able to do in two nights, and I applaud everyone who took the time to put in the work and time to put on this crazy yet very important night of theatre.
