I always find it interesting looking at different authors' reactions to fanfiction. I know that there are some who become really angry when they find out about people writing fanfiction about their works and believe that it is a travesty and ruining their works. And then on the other side of the spectrum, there are authors, like Neil Gaiman, who are not only incredibly flattered by people being inspired enough by their works to write fanfiction, but have also written fanfiction on other works as well. I do wonder what the legal line is between fanfiction and a derivative work, like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies or A Study in Emerald.
