Site Specific Theater At New Haven's IKEA. No Instructions Needed
Courant.com: Live theater has played in some offbeat places. But this one’s a doozy.
Theatre 4 launches its fourth annual Acting Out. Four regional playwrights take on the same challenge of writing a new 10-minute play that takes place somewhere in the showroom of IKEA New Haven. Audience members will be lead from play to play by tour guides.

Well, that's an unusual theatre space. This theatre company seems to be doing some pretty interesting things. When I first read the title of this article, I didn't understand why anyone would ever possibly want to produce theatre in an IKEA, let alone go to see theatre in an IKEA. IKEA can just be a scary place. But when you think about it, this can actually be really cool. I like how the playwrights have written their plays specifically for a certain area/type of room within the store. It is an interesting idea to write a play for the scenery, instead of writing a play, and then adding the scenery later on. I am curious to see the other design elements of these productions. Was there a scenic designer? If so, what was their process like, since most of the "scenery" already existed within the store? Also, I would be curious to hear about the lighting designer's process for these productions. Overall, a very unique and interesting concept.
