ATD - ME - Sound Engineer - Assistant Costume Designer - First Hand



Assistant Technical Director:  the ATD is one of two ATD’s who supports the Technical Director with budgeting, planning, drafting, loadin, and strike for all productions.  The primary skills required are: knowledge of scenery construction, AutoCAD, welding, and theatrical rigging; knowledge of automation and pneumatics is a plus.   The ATD needs to follow and enforce safe working practices.  A degree in Technical Theater or equivalent and 3 years professional experience is required.  The position begins in early August 2013 and goes through mid-May 2014.   The position is renewable.  Salary: Competitive based on experience.  Please send cover letter, resume and references to Neal Ann Stephens, Production Manager, at nasteph@udel.edu by April 30th.  

Master Electrician (ME):   The Master Electrician is responsible for the interpretation, preparation, budgeting, and execution of the light plot for each show; for maintaining all electric’s paperwork; and for running all electric’s crew calls during hang, focus, note sessions, and strikes.  The ME works with the scenery, sound, and props departments to ensure that all electrical elements mesh with the other departments.  The ME runs the light board for each performance and should have working knowledge of the Strand Light Pallet VL.   The ME must be able to maintain and repair conventional and moving lighting equipment, have strong communication and time management skills; be competent in AutoCad, VectorWorks and Lightwright 5; and have rigging and troubleshooting abilities.  Ability to program moving lights,  work with projection equipment, and have some sound knowledge preferred.  A degree in Technical Theater  (MFA preferred) or equivalent and 3 years professional experience is required.  The position begins in mid August 2013 and goes through mid-May 2014.     The position is renewable.  Salary: Competitive based on experience.  Please send cover letter, resume and references to Eileen Smitheimer at esmithei@udel.edu by April 30th.  No phone calls please.

Sound Engineer/ Electrician:  The primary duties will be to assist the Lighting and Sound Supervisor, in attending rehearsals as needed, running recording sessions, working load-ins and strikes for both lights/sound, and sound board operation for all productions. Skills required include:  computer knowledge (including Q-Lab), digital boards, time/budget management, knowledge of electrical wiring, and attention to detail. Applicants should have a BA in Technical Theatre (MFA preferred) + 2 years of professional theatre experience. The position begins in mid August 2013 and goes through mid-May 2014.   The position is renewable.  Salary: Competitive based on experience.  Please send cover letter, resume and references to Eileen Smitheimer at esmithei@udel.edu by April 30th.  No phone calls please.

Stage Supervisor: The stage supervisor is responsible for maintaining the scenery and for being in charge back stage during techs and performances.  The stage supervisor participates in the scenery load-in, works with stage management and the director in planning scene changes and intermission shifts; and trains the run crew.  The stage supervisor creates a safe and clean working environment for the cast and crew.  Experience on the fly rail and strong carpentry skills a must.  .  A degree in Technical Theater or equivalent and 1 year professional experience is required.  The position begins September 3, 2013 and goes through May 16, 2014.  Please send cover letter, resume and references to Neal Ann Stephens, Production Manager, at nasteph@udel.edu by April 30th.

Theater Technician:  The theater technician works with both electrics and scenery.   This is an ideal position for someone looking for a wide range of experience.  The theater technician participates in all scenery load-ins and in all electric hang and focus calls.  Depending on the production and the technician’s interests and abilities, other possibilities are assisting the lighting designer, being run crew backstage, helping with automation, and working in the scene shop.  This is an entry level position where the staff makes every effort to help the technician gain new skills.  The successful candidate will be well organized, focused, and able to follow directions precisely.  S/he should be comfortable working at heights up to 25’, be able to lift 40 pounds, and be safety conscious. This is a great position for a recent college graduate to begin his/her professional career. Assistant to the Costume Designer:    The assistant to the costume designer works with the resident and guest costume designers.  Duties include:  research, checking stock, placing orders, and attending fittings and dress rehearsals.  Our costume shop is a small professional model that is a great place for a recent undergraduate to begin her/his career.  We hire New York and Regional Theatre designers and artisans who provide opportunities for growth.
