Live Sound: How To Maximize The Effectiveness Of The Technical Rider
Pro Sound Web: This article is intended for those in our industry who are responsible for writing the technical specifications of an Artist Contract Rider.
Of course, for those of us on the receiving end of said rider, some of what is presented here might be entertaining, but we receivers earnestly hope the writers will learn - and use - this information to make all our lives (and dispositions) better.

Being able to clearly and concisely convey technical information is something that I've been working on doing for a while. When I shadowed the Lion King national tour for a couple of days, I had the opportunity to look over their tech rider. It was clear, easy to follow, and left nothing to to the imagination. Not only is the rider important in actually getting the gear the act needs, but it is often the first contact the house engineer and the act's engineer will have. A good first impression is important, and a well written and thoroughly thought out rider will help provide a favorable impression before you even walk into the venue.
