It is amazing that all of these shows went to Fringe. It is really cool because playground can actually be a space to test out new work and see if what you are doing works or if it doesn't and then from their move onto a real festival. I think that playground has turned into a sort of work shopping phase for School of Drama.
To be produced this young is an amazing oppertunity and now that we have had a presence at Fringe I'm sure we will continue to which means that Carnegie can continue to build up it's name for new work and it's students in general.
One interesting aspect of jumping from Playground to the Fringe Festival, was observing the differences in operation. The endeavor of organizing a festival in New York City is absolutely a huge production - overseas productions, national productions, the massive city itself, contracting theaters.
There were major inefficiencies with the process however. Roles of managers are murky in both situations. As "ACR", or the sole representative of the show to the Fringe Festival - I took on many jobs that were the responsibility of others: producing, advertising, box office.
It was an interesting experience to notice the differences, and get a crash course in marketing...or at least learn what should have been done.
Fringe!!! Truly amazing that so many CMU pieces were excepted this year. Playground is an incredible opportunity and I'm so happy that so many people have taken advantage of it and come up with some truly individual pieces. Not only is Playground an opportunity to test these pieces, but its an opportunity that most will not get from their education. TEAM CMU!
playground was definitely the opportunity that gave badge a chance for life and without playground we never would have gone to fringe but playground is north only place that carnegie helped all of the shows get to fringe. Whether it be helping with the financial toll of simply entering or providing us with some amazing advertisement such as this article. This just goes to show what an amazing and supportive school we go to and I am truly thankful to be apart of it.
