100 years after his birth, Gene Kelly's legacy remains vibrant
TribLIVE: If you’re planning to celebrate Gene Kelly’s 100th birthday on Thursday, be prepared to bake your own cake. The legendary actor, dancer, director, choreographer and Highland Park native began his life here on Aug. 23, 1912, before moving on in his 20s to New York City and eventual fame and fortune in Hollywood in iconic movie musicals such as “Singin’ in the Rain,” “An American in Paris” and “On the Town.”
