I'm curious how this played out. It's an interesting mix of talents that unionized, and probably a small group. I would look at it and estimate maybe 30 people in all. They cover the gambit of television staff, and for once include Wardrobe on the same contract. I thought that this staff was part of a much larger organization though- Comedy Central or the larger producing organization- so it's interesting that they are bargaining as a show sized unit (especially with Colbert just down the hall). I will have to go back and see if there are any references to this in the Daily Show the last few days.
I'm glad they're now receiving health and retirement benefits. Employees rallying together for better conditions can have a very powerful effect. Of course, it can always backfire, especially if you're an air traffic controller and Ronald Reagan is president.
I wonder though, it seems like there could be a better, more efficient, fair job system than unions vs companies. I know it's continuing to be effective for the most part, but it seems culturally outdated. Is there not a better way of doing things? Are we too petty/set in our ways to accept that just yet, or has it not even been proposed? I predict that I'll see a massive overhaul and revision of the job system, pertaining to money, benefits, and working conditions in my lifetime.
