Perhaps you thought General Butt Naked in "Book of Mormon" was a fictional character? You thought wrong.

Boing Boing: In Vanity Fair, Tom Freston profiles the former Liberian warlord turned evangelical minister whose alias many Americans know only through a character in Matt Stone and Trey Parker's Broadway hit, Book of Mormon.

Where do people find people like this?

But really. It is fascinating to learn from where artists pull their characters. Many characters have some sort of inspiration, a real-life person who drives the conception of the fictional one. Having done some research, Stone and Parker may have come across Blahyi and the Butt Naked Brigade and decided to incorporate it into the show. Or perhaps had an idea of a general character, who was given depth by the Butt Naked Brigade. Given the title, it would have been nice to hear more about the relation of this person or group to the show.
