Talent event benefits The Edward and Rose Berman Hillel Jewish University Center of Pittburgh

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Following the talent search format of television's "American Idol," Campus Superstar looks for the best voice among Pittsburgh-area college students. The sixth annual event to benefit The Edward and Rose Berman Hillel Jewish University Center of Pittsburgh was held April 1 at Carnegie Music Hall. From a pool of 160 very musical students who auditioned in the fall, 10 finalists emerged representing Carnegie Mellon University, Point Park University and the University of Pittsburgh. They took the stage to compete in front of more than 1,300 music lovers.

I like that local talent is having their own competition. The American Idol type situation is so vastly huge that the time commitment alone can be restrictive. This sounds like a lot of fun and a big success. Bringing back the past winner and then adding special guests is a plus for bringing in a crowd. I hope this continues and that other cities will do the same. Having more realistic competitions that van be fit into an already existing schedule will hopefully allow this new tradition to go on.
