While I am extremely excited to have Patrick Wilson addressing all of CMU for this coming graduation, I feel that for the School of Drama he has been here one to many times to make this a special occasion. Please don't get me wrong, it's an honor to have Mr. Wilson back to speak, however, this will have been the fourth time he has visited in the last three years. I just think itn would have been exciting to have some other industry professional who has not been here in recent years to come and speak to us. I think that not only would it be more exciting for the whole SoD as a whole, I also feel that the diversity of people coming through our schools would allow us a better opportunity to grow and learn new things.
I have not had the opportunity to see Mr. Wilson because I am a freshman so I am very excited for this. I can understand that if you've seen him three times, this would loose it's sparkle. I will be completely honest, I didn't realize who he was until I IMBD-ed him. Raoul in the Phantom!! That sold it for me. Every time I hear about another alumni I get kind of freaked out that I actually go here and that everyone around us is SO talented. This definitely brought me down to earth.
As a freshman sitting in the Chosky at the SoD awards ceremony, I felt honored to know and work with the upperclassmen who earned their awards. When I heard that Patrick Wilson was to speak at commencement, I felt like that was another upperclassmen I would've been proud to know. I think it's awesome that such successful alums come back and give to their universities and recognize the rising talent that's about to join them in the work force. The seniors graduating this year deserve to be recognized by their alums and the community at large and I can't be more excited to hear what they do with their careers.
SCORE! I honestly am thrilled to have Patrick Wilson talking at this
years 2012 Graduation, he first a very distinguished person, and
secondly and most importantly, has alot to say about life outside the
School of Drama. Though at first I thought the fact that he is a drama
alum might be limiting, after looking at his video, I think he will
have alot of important things that not only apply to arts students, but
the class in general- because anyone's life experiences, no matter how
different from your own, can be so valuable in getting a different
perspective. It will be interesting to see some the rest of the
school's reaction to him, and I'm just curious to see if his words
would be as meaningful to them as they might be to some of the people
in the Purnell. I know for certain how excited I am though!
