My dad was a graphic designer for a short time when I was younger, and I have to say that one of the more important computer-things I was introduced to during that period was Photoshop. He was using it for work, it interested him, and so it was around me and I started using to learn it as well. And it's amazing to think of the strides the program has made since then. Layers, objects, and tools are so much smarter than they have ever previously been. In a good way. I don't think the new developments overcomplicated the software, as is a danger in many programs, I think they actually do provide more simplicity. And, although I'm sure there are some photo editing elitists would disagree, the increased accessibility makes it better for beginners looking for a way to learn a new software.
