Cirque Presents: AMALUNA!

Every single one of Cirque du soleil's show is has an over all theme that controls the direction of each individual show. Martial arts for Ka, the ocean and the water for O, some more gimmicky ones such as the movie history for Iris and we all know how Elvis worked out. Its interesting for cirque to chose such a strong theme. Seems to me that if they do stick strong to their word that this is not "Pro-Feminism" show and just another way to get people to view the world then i think it will have a lot of success. However if it does cross the line of becoming a show about feminism it might cause trouble. Of course I am not trying to say that a show about women's power in history and growth isn't important, I am glad they are going with this direction for the show and utilizing a mostly female cast to show the strength of women.
I personally believe that this show will be a really enjoyable one that will have a decent length of a run. Like the comment above stated, Cirque typically has an over arching theme to thier shows and this one adds a whole new dimension to their style of show. This is unigue because it incorporates a more polical or social topic, whereas the other Cirque shows have a more general less politically charged topic. But I feel for this reason it will go far. For a lot of the shows that Cirque creates, there is no through story line (of course there are exceptions, Ka for example is one that has a definate storyline.) But this one feel like it would be more the typical "play" structure. I hope that this show lasts a while and that I get the chance to see it because I would most definately find the stance of Cirque on something of this maginitude interesting.
I still have never seen a Cirque show. maybe its because of that that I feel like there are SO many of them. It makes me wonder how different they can all be, besides their theme. That being said, I love the concept of this one and am all for the company being comprised, for the most part, of women. I think I like the sound of this one because it seems to look like it will be a structured performance and not just a bunch of pretty stuff. I also love the title. I think someone should name their child this.
Another Cirque show! Cirque is definitely one of my favorite performance companies because of the way they layer a deeply conceptual storyline and design with the tricks and physical feats their performers pull off. I think that by producing this show and switching up the gender ratio to mostly women is a really great idea. Normally people think of strong, athletic men being able to pull off the stunts that Cirque does, and I think this show proves that women can do just the same. I can't wait to see it!
