Breaking Ground Loops
TFWM Audio Newsletter Articles: Last issue we looked at troubleshooting unbalanced interfaces. This issue we will look at how to safely break ground loops in our systems. When a system contains two or more pieces of grounded equipment, whether via power-cords or other ground connections, a “ground loop” may be formed. The following uses the example of a home A/V system, but the same principles can be applied to breaking ground loops in any audio or video system.
