PLASA Submits Eight Standards in Rigging, Lighting and Control for Public Review

Stage Directions: While I was away PLASA dropped a lot of standards into public review. First, they have four rigging standards up for review covering: the design, inspection and maintenance of electric chain link hoists; the portable controls used to operate chain hoists; the structural integrity of loudspeaker enclosures that are suspended overhead; and minimum requirements for the selection and use of personal fall arrest systems on portable structures. Additionally, three photometric standards are up for review. These standards cover: the minimum photometric data to be presented on documents purporting to accurately describe the photometric performance of luminaires; a method for measuring and presenting stage and studio luminaire lens quality with particular emphasis on sharpness; a set of procedures to mitigate the perceived risks of tungsten-halogen lamps in a live performance environment. Finally, PLASA is submitting a new lighting control protocol for review. The protocol provides additional get/set parameter messages (PIDs) for use with the ANSI E1.20 Remote Device Management protocol.
