Stage review: 'The Monster in the Hall' charms
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: What's your monster, and where does it hide -- under the bed, in the hall, across town, mid-state or overseas? It isn't just children who have monster-like fears. But, admittedly, "The Monster in the Hall," an engaging new play by Scotsman David Grieg at City Theatre, does have some hallmarks of children's theater. The hero is Duck (short for Ducati), a feisty girl of 16 who has to act the parent for her ill, irresponsible but basically lovable father. Simultaneously, she has to deal with a social worker and a friend who might even be a boyfriend except that he makes a request so outrageous it can't be repeated here.
