Unfortunately, the cult film to broadway stage just didn't "cut it" this time! I actually watched the clip from the show at the bottom of the article, and think that the singing is good, but it just didn't fit with the mood of the movie. For example, it is very difficult to sympathize with a crazy mother singing ballads, especially because the movie, which I have only heard about, focuses on how truly frighteningly cruel she treats her daughter, Carrie. I just don't think a small scale musical can portray the same effect as the movie, it shows that nowadays people think that if it can work for one, it can work for all adaptations, which is certainly not the case.

Is anyone actually surprised about this? I mean, I can get on the weird musical train some times, but Carrie just doesn't work for me. The movie freaked me out enough. i dont believe I would want to add more drama in the form of musical numbers. Lets get real here, do you think Stephen King was envisioning Carrie singing and dancing just before getting drenched in pig blood? I don't think so.

I looked to comment on this post but I feel that I will simply regurgitate the first two postings. But I agree, there is a reason that this show only ran for 5 performances. One would assume that produces would assume that a modern audience would become more sophisticated and no less. Super popular shows from the 80’s do not translate to a modern audience, why would they think that Carrie would? On the other hand, this current incarnation ran a who lot longer than the first. Perhaps when the re-launch this musical in 2040, they might get a full season from it.
