Storytelling Classes in New York

NYTimes.com: THE eight people in David Crabb’s Wednesday night class had been asked not to walk like themselves. So the students shuffled or pranced, puffed out their stomachs, clutched their backs. They all had their own gaits, and no one made eye contact.

Telling stories is something so universally enjoyed that I'm surprised that there hasn't really been a venue for the actual act, or art, of storytelling until so recently. Everyone loves hearing a good story, and the intimate bond that is created when you someone tells you one on the more personal spectrum. I wonder what kind of overlap there is between a class that is geared specifically for storytelling and an acting class, or if there even is any at all. It sounded like the members of the class described were being taught specific movement techniques that are taught here, and had to embody the characters whose stories they were telling, even though the characters were real people in their lives. I would love to listen to some professional storytellers tell some stories. This is a great idea for a venue.
