Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc. Launches the Creative Minds Monthly Design Competition

Lighting&Sound America Online - News: Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc. is excited to announce the start of the Creative Minds Monthly Design Competition in the US. This "charette style" competition introduces a new concept every month to be answered with any kind of design response -- architectural design, product design, landscape design, entertainment design, and others. It challenges designers to explore multiple options for documenting and presenting a response to a design concept.

This is a really clever idea. It's quite the incentive for someone who doesn't know Vectorworks (like me) to learn the software. It also inspires brand loyalty. If you're spending time using the software to submit entries for this competition, you'll probably be gaining a great deal of familiarity with the program. If you've developed that level of comfort with the program, why would you use other software?
I also appreciate that this contest is monthly, rather than an annual thing. I think tighter deadlines often forces more creativity; there's no time to think about what you want to do, you just have to jump in and start making. If I had any idea how to use Vectorworks, I would submit to this contest every month.

In addition to what Pia said, this competition keeps our minds fresh and challenging us to continue thinking in an innovative fashion. Competition is one of those things that get people to get their craziest ideas into action. Usually it is the crazy ideas that are worth while and that have the best outcome.
In addition, it is a great way to publicize this software and to get people to want to become better acquainted with it. I'm still not sure what Vectorworks does but I'm happy to see that it's usefulness spans across multiple design fields, which opens the competition all the more. It is refreshing to be inspired by an unsuspecting field through the outcome of this competition.

I enjoy seeing large companies engage their customers in more than just simple customer service and training. Getting people involved in competitions helps everyone increase their skill level, and as Pia mentioned, gain familiarity with the program throughout the process. I feel that if more people get better at using Vectorworks, more people will want to buy software from Nemetschek. After looking through their website briefly, I found the design themes to be pretty vague, so I bet they get lots of really cool submissions with such an open-ended design prompt.
