Pittsburgh Biennial: Bigger than ever
Examiner.com: Conventional wisdom says “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” But that does not appear to be a guiding principle at Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts*. The Pittsburgh Biennial has been one of the organization’s premier regular events since 1994 and invariably a huge success. Yet this year PF/PCA took some big risks in expanding the exhibition to include three other Pittsburgh arts institutions, and the payoff is proving to be a spectacular show.

This is a great concept and idea that PF/PCA has come up. Expanding their Biennial allows more individuals to see their work, and more institutions to take part in a great event. As they stated, they let individuals of the community participate and are all about fostering the community. Not only can we foster the community by allowing pittsburgh artists to participate but by allowing other institutions to expand their outreach. Since the Miller gallery is taking part in the Biennial it will be nice to go to a gallery that is so close and be able to see an aspect of the Biennial.
I'm glad that the PF/PCA is being proactive in expanding the scope of their Biennial. Just because the event was doing well, doesn't mean it can't be doing better. This type of forward thinking reduced the chance of the public getting bored with the same old same old and reinvigorates the community when they see just how much Pittsburgh has to offer in the way of the arts.
