ETC Debuts Online Video Contest for Schools
Stage Directions: Enthusiasm, talent, and creativity — that’s the ‘ETC’ in ETC’s “Show Us Your ETC” contest. ETC® (Electronic Theatre Controls, Inc.) is challenging students to demonstrate their ‘ETC’ in an original video. The three top videos will each win an ETC lighting control console for their U.S. high school, college, or university.

I think this is a fun incentive for theatre students to think outside the box and create something fun! I like to see technical theatre companies which normally seem to be very professional and serious have fun outreach programs like this to involve the community as well. I definitely forwarded this link on to the current technical theatre students at my old high school. I think it's something they can do, plus they're in need for a console upgrade anyway.
This is fun. Sure it's great and all that a creative high school or college will get a brand new console of their choice if they win the grand prize, but I'm looking forward to the videos. I like memes, I like viral videos and I like how overly creative technical theatre students are. Smash all this stuff together and we're going to get some wonderful geeky yet cool looking videos from these kids.
This is one of the top reasons why I love ETC. Not only do they make great products, but they have a ridiculous amount of fun doing it. I've interacted with ETC at USITT, and at workshops, and they guys are always a blast to be around. They host great contests too that involve a little bit of creative work for awesome prizes. It's well worth it to apply, too, since not a lot of people often enter. The same can be said for iSquint contests. Always keep your eyes peeled for fun opportunities like this!
I like contests of any kind, but this seems particularly interesting. With all of the financial difficulties many venues are going through, this will be a chance for some of the schools to gain valuable equipment. Furthermore, it is a chance for the students to excel. On a personal note I can't wait to see the videos. I'm sure some of the entrants will be super creative trying to make a "winner". In the end, we all win by this contest: the schools, the students and the viewers.
