The Projection Technical Setup For Spider-Man
Live Design: Media designer Howard Werner and associate media designer/video technician Jason Lindahl shared some of the technical aspects of the projection elements for Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark. - The projection system setup control is via a PRG v676 console. This system controls the moving lights and the video. During programming, the team worked from three facepanels, one for the moving light programmer, one for video programming, and one as a master. For the run of the production, there is one facepanel and one backup server.

Seeing this design during class and other places recently, it is amazing how new the technology is. this is a new form of technology where units were created for the sole use of the show. I found that the design and the general setup of the information was incredible precise. the way that our industry is revolutionizing so rapidly at our time and place is rather exciting. This is one of those shows that we will be referencing years from now as a example of large strides of change in the industry. I look foreword to seeing this technology becoming a industry of new technologies all its own.
This is one of the few shows that I am absolutely in love with the media. Not only in the projection world but also in their use of the LED panels to create seemingly projected images. We went over the set up of Spiderman in class last Friday and I was blown away at the amount of equipment it takes to run such a big show. Also, since media is a newer field the media designer also ends up being the programmer, technician, and stage hand for all things media related. I don't know if the same is true for a big budget show like Spiderman, but it would be interesting to find out.
