Neil LaBute and Theresa Rebeck want to write a play for you, live

latimes.com: Neil LaBute and Theresa Rebeck want to write a play for you. And on Tuesday, they’ll be doing just that -- writing a play, together, in real time in front of you on Culture Monster.

What a cool idea! I think it will be really exciting to see how this play turns out, depending on which scenario wins. It's great that both of these young playwrights are up for it-both of their styles are very much with the times, and their collaboration should make for some interesting dialogue. It reminds me a bit of the 24-hour musical project in NYC, where a bunch of writers, actors, and directors get together for only 24 hours to write, rehearse, and perform a series of new musicals and sometimes plays. Sometimes the things people can come up with on the fly end up being better than if they had had time to rethink their gut feelings. And for the record, I voted for the divorced couple who get seated next to each other on the plane :)

This is really innovate and exciting idea. I love theater that one can interact with. This reminds me of a play that I saw when I was 13, it was a "choose your own adventure story" and as it went along the audience got to choose what the characters got to do.

I love that technology has allowed us to do this too. There are so many ways to connect online that I don't feel are exploited. But this is like art that is created by a public and not just one person in a vacuum. It is exciting because everyone can have a voice! I voted for the sperm donor children that fall in love. Which we actually discussed in directing as a good idea for a play!
