Exhibit Design Toolbox: babyCAD
ExhibiTricks: The Museum Exhibit Design Blog: BabyCAD is an online tool that lets you intuitively create exhibit installations. It's clear that right now babyCAD is geared more toward trade show and pop up exhibits, but that being said, I really liked how quickly and intuitively I could knock together a respectable rendering with multiple exhibit elements.

This is another powerful but specialized tool, and I hesitate to use those, since there tends to be a more general solution with the same functionality out there somewhere. It looks like even SketchUp will do whatever this program does, plus a helluva lot more. If you need to design a trade show booth, great, but for anything in theatre or elsewhere, using software like this leads to lots of working around functionality that's there to help with the trade show application rather than using basic functionality to get to the desired end result. We like things that are based online, though...
This program seems too specialized to be very effective. I'm sure any other CAD program could do everything this can. I understand that only having the bare necessary tools available to you can help to streamline the process, but this seems a bit excessive.
That being said, some of the features mentioned in this article seem pretty cool, such as providing a URL that lets clients see the 3-D models.
This seems to be a program that is similar to Google sketch up in the fact that it is easy to pick up and do things. I wonder if baby CAD will be picked up or will Google sketch up just stay the leader in these type of things. I do see that baby CAD will be a good program for people that are designing small to medium sized booths for trade shows. When I think about it Google sketch up and programs like these never seem to win out over the normal CAD programs. I know it is because once a person gets used to their program they are very comfortable and stubborn to change the program in which they draft on. I hope the best to baby CAD but I don't think that it will get a leg up.
