Its great that Light Relief and Behind the Scenes are were created so specifically to help those who work in the theater industry that are in need financially. These organizations benefit those whose family members who have passed or have been injured throughout their career. Furthermore, for other employees to give up one day of royalties on a designated day (April 24) is a great way to celebrate the theater industry as well as donate to it, and I hope that this day with its support from Broadway and West End designers turns out well.
I agree with Grace and I think that this is a creative and intelligent way to raise funds. It is much simpler for someone to give a days worth of royalties than to make a donation. It creates a low stress, low stakes situation. No one will have to worry if they are giving enough. It also brings a large sense of community to those who get involved. It is also very important for a small, close knit community such as ours to have charities created by those who understand the craziness best.
