Campus Alerts: "This evening, public safety officials of the City of Pittsburgh strongly encouraged the university to cancel classes tomorrow and call off all non-essential personnel, in light of what they have assessed to be a continuing dangerous situation for drivers and pedestrians as a result of this weekend's storm.

I'm enjoying my day off and getting caught up on some work, but I feel like two days should be enough to take care of the roads. I was walking around the city yesterday, and I was very surprised at how much snow there still was on the main roads. I'll be pretty astounded if we don't have class tomorrow, either. I hope all the shows that are in tech will be able to make up for the lost time.

Being from Alabama, I've only seen this much snow when I've gone skiing. So its a little weird for me not to have school due to snow. However, I was in New York when they got a foot of snow, and nothing shut down. The roads were cleared almost immediately and it was like no one had missed a beat. So, I figured that northern cities must have this snow thing all figured out. I'm a little disappointed that, despite very clear weather forecasts, the city of Pittsburgh wasn't prepared for this storm. I thought that the snow plows would be on standby, but it seems that that was not the case. I too hope that the shows in tech will be able to make up for lost time and I also hope that no one has gotten hurt.

While I understand the need and want to keep everyone safe, I believe that there is no reason why there should not have been school today. The fact that three days have gone by and there is still huge quantities of snow on the main road, let alone the almost impassible side roads.
While this is quite a large amount of snow the fact that it remains is a failure on the part of the city of Pittsburgh. I have heard that outside of Pittsburgh city limits things are plowed and fine. The city was simply not prepared for what had been forecasted to come for days prior to the snow actually falling.
In addition, while they are still trying to play catch-up more snow is coming later this week. I hope they are thinking about this and this does not become the week where Pittsburgh shutdown.
However, regardless, everyone should take every precaution to stay safe!

I think it's crazy that Pittsburgh hasn't gotten their act together to clean up the snow. We all knew that it was supposed to snow, so why couldn't they just be ready? Anyway, it is nice to have an extra day off, but we might all go a little stir crazy after a while.

I don't know how the city can afford to just shut down like this for three days. It's not safe! I've seen more cars slipping and sliding the past weekend than I ever have in my life.

Anyway, literally just got a text message saying no class tomorrow, it's getting a little crazy. How are the shows going to open on time???
