‘Wicked’ and ‘Spring Awakening’ Among Decade’s Top Musicals
NYTimes.com: "JUDGED from the long view of history, the Broadway musical’s rise, reign and fall appear to have taken place in a flash. This American-born art form reached its artistic peak in the 1940s and began a slide toward senescence a mere two decades later. But take a stroll through Times Square today, and a different point of view asserts itself. The tourists thronging the area aren’t coming for the lawn chairs, after all, or the peculiar chain stores devoted to candy brands."

I wonder how much of his list is based on material and how much is based off of $$$ grossed. Does the success and run of a production make it a top musical? Although everyone has different tastes when it comes to them I suppose. Perhaps the best way to measure quality in this case it to look as the amount of money made and the length of the run. Otherwise I'm sure we would see all sorts of productions in his list. But I have to say that I didnt care for MAMA MIA all that much....
