Arden Forest Blooms in Sam Mendes ‘As You Like It’
Bloomberg.com: "The British and American collaborative Bridge Project is back at the Brooklyn Academy of Music with “As You Like It.” Cleverly directed by Sam Mendes, it does very nicely without absolute stars, although Stephen Dillane, Juliet Rylance and Thomas Sadoski bring considerable reputations to an elegant production."

Sam Mendes is a director that for the stage at least takes a vision quite the opposite you would expect. For the revival of Cabaret he did with Rob Marshall the show was unlike anything ever done before. It was interactive, environmental and scary. It changed my viewing of theater. It seems with his recent production of As You Like It he has done something like that. Maybe not changing but different from the norm. The show seems well received and knowing As You Like It quite well, it looks fantastic for the little scenery evident in the pictures. But scenery isnt necessary for a story like this that depends so much on characters and their overall arching through the 5 acts. IT should focus on them as any story does and Mendes is a master at character. Not only from his movies is this evident but in all his theater productions that continue to amaze and re-imagine theater for audiences.
