With 'Pigeon Party,' popular stories take wing

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: "A mischievous pigeon from a series of children's books will be acting out his shenanigans on several Pittsburgh-area stages for the next two weeks.
In 'Pigeon Party!' -- the latest production of the Pittsburgh International Children's Theater -- the pigeon from author Mo Willems' award-winning series will demonstrate onstage the comical adventures from three books -- 'Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!', 'The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog!' and 'Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late!' The British-based Big Wooden Horse Theatre Company produces the show."

I pretty much love any and all attempts to get children into the theatre. This is a really great concept, basing a play off of a well-read children's story. The children that read these books are going to be so connected to this character, that they will want to see the pigeon in real life, it will make the book come to life even more. This is an interesting idea to consider in the future. If we want our younger generations to value theatrical experiences, shouldn't we start their theater viewing experiences as something positive, in which they enjoy their time at the theater, and want to go back out of their own volition.
