'Shogun Macbeth' Returns to Open Pan Asian Rep Season in NYC

Yahoo! News: "Ernest Abuba (who played the title role originally) directs what's billed as 'a cultural transmutation' that 'channels Shakespeare's tragic tale of power and greed to the feudal military dictatorship of 12th century Japan (Kamakura Period), a time of warring clans.'"

My sister went to Scripps in Claremont, and when she went there, they did a Macbeth which incorporated Kabuki. Now, this sounded like a really cool idea, but in the end, it just seemed like the Kabuki elements were tacked on top of the rest of the play. I'd be interested to see how well/not so well this company incorporates their Asian theatrical genres into Macbeth. It's certainly a challenge.
