It's life, in miniature

Los Angeles Times: "In 18th century Japan, the shogunate became alarmed at young lovers mimicking the double suicides they were seeing at the theater. What made the situation especially bizarre was that the couples were copying this behavior from puppets."

It's pretty amazing to think about the affects of puppet's emotions on people. We are able to identify so easily with them that some people have modeled their actions after them. I have to say that is a pretty impressive performance on the puppeteers part.

I think that its interesting that in the west we think of puppets as something silly and have trouble taking them seriously. Coming from a world of Punch and Judy and the Muppets, I think it would be cool to see heartfelt puppetry.
