IM best-practices in the workplace
43 Folders: "My office mates and I figured out this week that we have an IM client on our corporate workstations. Novices to the world of corporate IM, we don’t really know what it’s used for. I’ve used IM clients at home, of course, but never at work and we’re all at a bit of a loss on how this would be useful, if at all."

It is an interesting concept to have an Instant Messaging program installed onto all the computers in an office. I feel like this has both good and bad qualities to it. A positive development is you can get quick responses, sending files over a matter a seconds and getting comments back on them. A negative is that there is no real block against interruptions. I guess you can put up away messages stating "DO NOT DISTURB," but there is always that person who thinks it doesn't apply to them. Maybe IM can be beneficial at work, but I don't think so.
