How to Engineer Your Day
lifehack.org: "A single day is one of the core cycles in life. In your lifetime you are probably going to experience about 29,000 of them, so you might as well make them count. A habit, run once, may seem unimportant. But a single change can add up when you consider you will be doing it thousands of times."

This exact exercise had been a HUGE part of being productive, healthy, and NOT BROKE since my time at CMU. I don't log everything except expenses but those relate to school, health, AND productivity whether I like it or not. It was a hard adjustment moving off-campus into a house and being off the mealplan but I find that it is equally as expensive if not more expensive if I'm not careful about how I spend my money or my time. The times I've woken up late and didn't have time to make lunch ended up costing me $8 at the food court to eat which is plenty of money to restock things like bread, milk, and sandwich supplies. It's amazing when you track these things how quickly you spend money without thinking. That's why I balance my checkbook after every few transactions so I know exactly how much money I have in the bank and how much I'm spending. It really helps, especially when things get crazy in school.
With our busy school schedules it is often hard to keep track or log different activities. Obviously this type of organization is important to success in our field. If we could apply much of how we work in the theatre to our real lives much of it may go a lot smoother. At the same time, our lives may be a lot more crazy.
I think the greatest challenge is just looking at a decision the right way. We don't see it in how it will every aspect of our lives. Sure, we don't have to think that in depth but its important to think about when it's a decision that changes everything along with it. A move, a new job, whatever it be everything needs to thought out so that the final decision is a good one.
