'Frankenstein' scares up audiences
Variety: "'Young Frankenstein' played seven previews last week, and although there's no telling exactly how much money it made -- producers have bucked Broadway tradition by declining to report sales figures -- estimates put 'Frank' B.O. somewhere in the area of $1.5 million."

So i think i finally came up with the analogy for this situation...
Young Frankenstein is that rich kid that just moved in to town in the middle of the school year, who shows up, and doesnt want to share or become friends with the other kids in the class, but still manages to be cool because of his secrecy.
I do not really like the idea of breaking with the tradition of the reporting box office numbers, but i guess it is just one of Young Frankenstein's way of being the new cool kid in town.
I kind of like their marketing strategy. I think it is way better than having too much exposure with the press. I mean, what they're saying is that "if you want to check how many seats are taken, you'd better check them out yourself." I think it is daring.
I am curious as to the actual revenues of the show. But also, how do they come up with the estimates? It may be very close, but could be way off as well. Although I must admit I am quite interested in seeing the show, not because of withholding or letting out numbers, just because it sounds interesting.
On a random note, my Dad knows the Props Master on the show - and no I won't be getting free or even discounted tickets, but what's interesting is that even he, working on the show, just got two free tickets to the previews. That seems somewhat odd.
It's weird to me that they have decided not to report their earnings, but then again so much of it is thrown off these days by other groups buy and selling tickets...which is where I'm guessing some of the estimates came from. I'm kinda torn between whether or not I would like the show itself...seeing as it's Mel Brooks and all...but I guess that's another story.
