I guess I don't really understand why this "renovation" is necessary. In one light, it may seem like a fun idea, incorporated more pixar movies etc. But at the same time, why do they need to mimic disneyland? Wouldn't it be more effective to stray further from the path, although more of a risk? However, maybe that is where they failed in the first place, and they are scared to try again.
Although I shouldn't be one to judge, as I am not the biggest fan of rides, and one Disneyland is more than plenty for me.
GEEZE. I just see Disney as a huge excess and overkill. And from a marketing stand point, I agree with Katie. If they want the experience of Disneyland to be a multi day experience then just expand the park. Trying to mimic it with California Adventure is just not heading in the right direction. Why would you pay more money to go to California Adventure when you are seeing a better version at Disneyland?
I guess if you have the money you should spend it. My thoughts are that it was silly to base a "Disney" park for primarily adults anyway. In a way, the Disney parks remind me of the New York Yankees. If you have as much money as that, you should spend it to get the best. Anything short of the world series is failure, although in Disney's case, it is all about attendance.
I remember going to Disneyland not too long after they added California Adventure. It was really quite the disappointment. The only real attraction was the roller coaster that was there...other than that, there really was anything special. I guess I might be more interested if they added the Pixar stuff but I really don't know. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if they change it enough to make it worth the trip for me when Disney World is so much closer.
See this is the beauty and mosts critique with Disney, yes there is excess but the thing that is good about this excess of money is the fact that artistically you can really do whatever you want with little to no consequences(excluding monetary costs) because disney has such a large monetary resource and annual income...that way you can try something, if it doesn't work fix it and try again...
The addition of those new attractions is a good idea to help draw some more people into the park. Going there is a nice and relaxing park with a few things to do, but it is more of a look at California as a whole, and the addition will just help bring in more people to the area.
I agree with all of the above though I side more with Travis.. I feel that in this case the expenses are so extreme that I try to find a way that it's a good thing. The extravagant designs are what make the park special and if it weren't for the money these things would not be done to their full extent. It's a sticky situation.
