Use time wisely -- by slacking off

Los Angeles Times: "The No. 1 time-wasting activity is surfing the Internet and sending personal e-mails (a finding perhaps skewed by the fact that the survey, conducted by AOL and salary.com, was Web-based), followed by socializing with co-workers, conducting personal business and just plain 'spacing out.' All of this loafing is supposedly costing employers $759 billion a year in lost productivity."

A real truism, I find it funny that in a country where reports like this are done and then debated over we take the fewest vacation days of any of our peers, yet companies demand we be more productive. We are a country of workers, of doers and movers, we are all striving for that American Dream, one that involves an eight hour work day and a sizable income. I enjoy reading articles like these because it puts merit behind all the web surfing that I do!

Working an eight hour day can be tedious. Constant work I believe could actually hurt production. Sometimes it is better to focus on something else for a little while and let your brain take a break. Who knows, maybe inspiration can come from surfing the net.

sometimes goofing off is entirely necessary. being too serious for too long is just plain unhealthy. my old tech teacher used to say 'think lazy, be productive' you dont have to be working all the time if you can get all your work done. no reason to give yourself an aneurysm.

i think we just need to relook at how work is set up. Look at Google an increasingly prosporous company. They treat their employees amazingly wiht free GOOD food and lots of fun activities. I wonder what type of productivity or lack of is going on there.
