Pittsburgh in the Round: When theatre practitioners gather there are stories to be told. When Point Park University invited former performing arts students and friends to the venerable Pittsburgh Playhouse for a final party on two stages, the event was a sell out. It was a sentimental and vibrant evening–warm hugs and cold drinks on a hot spring night–full of memories, conversations with old friends from past shows and classes, and chances to “be remembered” by writing on surfaces soon to disappear. Think class reunion meets cast party.

Point Park University in downtown Pittsburgh has always been known for having a great program and also a supportive community behind their efforts. They welcomed them not only back into the performance space but had present fellow cast members, faculty, and fans to whom were all allowed in the performance center. It is also neat that alumni were able to leave their names on the wall of the Rockwell stage. Point Park has also been known for its art programs and it is wonderful to see that alumni tend to stick together and stay connected even after they have left the industry and entered the field. I also found it intriguing that they also got up on stage and sang together harkening back to their days in college. The Playhouse will always be considered a pioneer of contemporary theater in the cultural district; and also a place full of memories for those graduates of Point Park University.
