This article seems to be highlighting the fact that Pittsburgh’s performing arts scene is working to stay relevant in a fast-paced, digital world, and their values seem to lie in the fact that they are different from the things that normally fill one’s day. In order to combat things like AI and short-from content, these organizations are trying to break the idea that live performance is only for certain people, and it emphasizes that you are truly there, and experiencing something that is unique to you. I think I can get behind this very obvious marketing strategy because, I do agree that I feel better when I go to the theatre, socialize, and discuss after the fact with whoever I was with, and even though it might be mostly about getting butts in seats for them, it does make a difference in people’s lives.
After living in Pittsburgh for two years now I have found myself trying to immerse myself more and more into the local artistic community. I have always loved ballet and try to see at least one ballet per year but I have yet to see one by the Pittsburgh Ballet. I truly believe that all artists should immerse themselves in as many different forms of expression that they can find as it widens one's understanding of both themselves and the world around them. Theater is a little more well known as it does not get categorized as an old art in comparison to ballet and opera. Although each art form has been around for centuries people will only watch what is popular and by labeling opera and ballet as older art forms less people are interested in going to see that particular style of show. Ballet and opera are both able to tell thrilling stories in new ways passing down information and bringing joy to the community.
