This kind of shift makes total sense to me. As I have been introduced to the world of audio in college, I have found that AV over IP solutions are simply the better way to go. While they are hard to learn from a beginners standpoint, once you understand how they work their uses become endless. Being able to configure entire networks to your advantage and sending data around with ease is becoming a standard for all entertainment fields. I think this article as also made me realize that being comfortable in networking and IP solutions is a must for the work that I want to do. Because so many companies are moving in the direction of networking and digital solutions, it means that technicians should grow with that in order to stay marketable and attractive to employers. I am excited to continue learning more about how this will influence the workforce in the years to come and how it might change what employers are looking for in stagehands. I am hopeful that I can become more knowledgeable about AV over IP and start to really dig into the advanced layers of networking.
